The film ‘Cake’ featuring Jennifer Aniston, in which she portrays the character of Claire- a middle-aged woman suffering from chronic pain and facial scars, has created quite a buzz. Her performance in this indie dramedy has raised expectations of her receiving awards recognition particularly after its premiere at the Toronto Film Festival. The plot revolves around Claire starting a relationship with a man (Sam Worthington), whose wife (Anna Kendrick) had committed suicide.
By foregoing cosmetics and utilizing facial prosthetics, the former Friends star, now 45 years old, has earned rave reviews for her performance in a new film, generating speculation about a potential Oscar nomination. Deadline’s Pete Hammond tweeted, “Jennifer Aniston sensational in very moving new film CAKE just premiered at TIFF. This could be her ‘Monster.’ Award worthy for sure.” Charlize Theron underwent a similar transformation to portray serial killer Aileen Wuornos, and ultimately won the Best Actress Oscar in 2004.
The film executive produced by Aniston was directed by Daniel Barnz who reached out to her personally, detailing why she would be an ideal fit for the role. Upon accepting, Aniston took the time to interview individuals who shared the same condition as her character. Barnz was of the opinion that Aniston should refrain from wearing makeup for the film and advocated for a natural look that showcased her wrinkles and pores. He believed that this would add authenticity to her character, who is depicted as someone who doesn’t take care of themselves.
